another day in my life...
did i mention what I did for a living? No. I find too often that we are defined by it. Though there's so much more to the individual, we often say the name followed almost always by what they do. "this is tomiwa, he's an engineer who's going to start business school in september". Why do we do that? Is it simply a way to find common ground with others in the conversation, or are we trying to show off the individual's accomplishments in an attempt to assure the listener that we are well connected? OR we remember people by what they spend most of their time doing... I like to think of the latter reason. What do I spend most of my time doing? School, or work? And am I forever doomed to wear that label. I hope not... Maybe, even if I spend less time doing something more impactful, then my label will change. and someone can say " this is tomiwa, he is on a mission to raise a nation to its fullest potential" follow up question: "would you like to be a part of this?"
